Jonesboro is the seat of Craighead County, Arkansas, bordering the
Mississippi delta. The estimated population in 2003 was about 57,445.
This is the home of Riceland Foods, which is
the largest rice mill in the world. Several large industries are located
here including Hytrol Conveyor Company, Post General Foods, Armour
Swift Eckrich, General Electric, Thomas & Betts Corporation, Nestle's
and Frito Lay. As a result, unemployment is low. In the 1990s. Jonesboro
experienced the highest growth rate in the state.
Home of Arkansas State University, Jonesboro is served by six public
school systems which are accredited by the North Central Association of
Colleges and Secondary Schools. Among the cities cultural facilities are
the ASU Museum and the Forum, Jonesboro's Civic Center.
