Several areas in Tempe provide unique living environments. Buena Vista Ranchos has homes designed with corrals to keep horses in your own yard. It also contains a jumping course located in a park. The Lakes subdivision offers homes built around several manmade lakes. Pecan Grove offers homes in the shade of a multitude of pecan trees.

There are several major companies and industries in Tempe, many of which are high-tech.  Among the most prominent are Allied Signal Medtronics, America West Airlines, Micro Age Computers, Litton Microchip Technology, Neleo Technology, Inc Motorola and others.

Tempe is home to Arizona State University, a large learning institution.

There are recreational programs for all ages including Kiwanis Park Gymnasium, Papago Park - Rolling Hills Golf Course, Proposed Rio Salado Project, Pyle Adult Recreation Center, Desert Botanical Gardens and The Phoenix Zoo. Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital with its 110 beds and Level II Trauma is also here.
