Granger is a
non-incorporated area located in the northeast part of St.
Joseph County in Harris Township, the fastest growing area
in the county, and perhaps in northern Indiana.. The
original town of Granger was founded by Thomas J. Foster
in 1883, a result of the great farmers' movement known as
"The Grange" a populist organization which
flourished in the latter part of the 19th century
Granger was developed in the heartland of the area's farm county, the Harris Township prairie. As it continues to grow, many businesses are calling Granger home, including those in an industrial park, several restaurants, two new plazas and many retail stores. Students from this area attend Penn-Harris Madison schools. Many families have chosen the Granger community to take advantage of the excellent school system which has a wide diversity of programs.
