Springfield is the seat of Hampden County in
Massachusetts, The county exists only as a historical geographic region, and has no county government. A July 1, 2003 Census estimate put the city's population at 152,157, making it the third largest in Massachusetts
and also the largest city on the Connecticut River and the largest city
in Western Massachusetts and the Pioneer Valley. Springfield is home to the Basketball Hall of Fame and the Springfield Falcons hockey team. |
