| The
current population of Allentown, in Lehigh County, is approximately 104,000
people, covering approximately 18 square miles of
landscape. Its government type is mayor-council and its
school district is Allentown School District. Allentown -
along with its sister city Bethlehem - has long been the
hub for industrial, retail, and professional services. The
current median house price in the city is $77,000. Prices
range from $100,000 to $300,000 in most adjoining
communities with several prestigious areas where housing
will hit the $1 million plus range. A vast array of
housing styles ranging from historic town and row homes in
center city to sprawling west end ranches and two-story
colonials and virtually anything in between.
The adjoining
suburbs provide the major housing opportunities of the
area. North Whitehall township is the most rapidly growing
area. The developed countryside consists of rolling hills,
trees, farmlands, and orchards. Housing opportunities are
great for not only new construction but also quality
resale homes. South Whitehall township, although more
urban, still provides great housing opportunities plus
some of the most prestigious houses in the community.
Upper Macungie township to the west of the Whitehalls,
continues to be one of the most popular suburban housing
areas. Point West, Applewood, Green Hills are just a few
of the popular neighborhoods. Homes can be purchased in
the $160,000+ for resales with new construction starting
in the $180,000+ range. The East Penn area to the south
has recently enjoyed a strong real estate market, with
much housing available, similar to the Upper Macungie
area. The two school districts, Parkland and East Penn,
have proven to be popular with many relocating buyers. |
