The community of Humble began in 1886 when Pleasant Humble started a ferry service across the San Jacinto River and later he became the first postmaster here. Oil was discovered in 1904 with the first gusher in 1905. Humble became a Boomtown and the population grew to 15,000. Humble Oil Co. (now Exxon) took its name from this community.

Humble, in Harris County, is very close to the City of Houston (26 miles) and all of its cultural/recreational events. The area is largely forested as it is at the edge of the "Piney Woods" of east Texas. It is located by the San Jacinto River and close to Lake Houston.

Population is approximately 13,000 residents in the City of Humble and 270,000 within a 10 miles radius of the city.
