| The community of Humble began in 1886
when Pleasant Humble started a ferry service across the San
Jacinto River and later he became the first postmaster here. Oil
was discovered in 1904 with the first gusher in 1905. Humble
became a Boomtown and the population grew to 15,000. Humble Oil
Co. (now Exxon) took its name from this community.
